For 35 years people have been asking me if I realize how lucky I was to be there. History has proven that what Quiet Riot accomplished was improbable. It was cool to be there from the very beginning and watch it grow. I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time, not because they eventually became a famous band, but because I had true friends that cared for one another. That kinship we shared, ran deeper through our blood than the music or the photos.
Now, the fans are the lucky ones. Through these images, they get to take the journey with Kevin and Randy. My images bring the viewer right there onto the stage, into the studio, behind the mics, and into the homes of our extended family. The majority of photographs in this book have never been published, never even been enlarged from their tiny 35mm origins. They were looked at once or twice at one of our Quiet Riot slideshow parties and then put away. The few that were blown up, were given to the band members. My personal favorites still hang proudly on my studio walls.
Randy Rhoads and Kevin DuBrow were equally lucky because had I not been there with my camera, those memories would have died with them. Randy is still a part of my life. I never feel like he is gone unless I see a photo from his gravesite. Otherwise to me he is on another extended tour.
We couldn’t have known how things would turn out for everyone, but we knew it was a special time of all of our lives. It was a dream come true for me. These were my friends and it was the greatest time of my life.
